About Ktaos Solar Radio and Music Center
Taos is truly a unique area....and for over 20 years, K-TAOS has been serving the community with programming to serve its unique needs. Josseph the Starwatcher has been giving his astrological forecasts, people call Trash and Treasures selling the oddest things imaginable, and the variety of music ranges from Celtic to reggae, rock to world folk.

We are an integral part of Northern New Mexico, touching people's lives on a daily basis in their homes, cars, and businesses as evidenced by our First Place People's Choice Award status eleven years running. Our solar powered signal covers an area from Southern Colorado to Espanola, Los Alamos, Santa Fe, and all the communities in between.

Doctors Without Boarders Concert Tour---Frankie Paul and Pato Banton

Frankie Paul was born blind but as a child had his sight partially restored by an operation on a hospital ship.  He sang for, and impressed Stevie Wonder when Wonder visited the school that Paul attended, prompting him to pursue a singing career.   Pato Banton is a reggae singer and toaster from Birmingham, England. He received the nickname 'Pato' (Jamaican Patois for "wise owl") from his stepfather, and 'Banton' from the disc jockey slang for a "heavyweight DJ".

Thomas Mapfumo has been a witness to and participant in history in his native Zimbabwe. From the bloody years of the country's liberation war in the '70s, right through the present economic and political crises, Mapfumo has used his revolutionary, spiritually charged music to decry injustice and highlight the historical and cultural issues that underlie the news headlines. Mapfumo is a musical visionary and a fearless social critic and certainly one of the greatest African bandleaders of the past century.   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Mapfumo

Guitar Shorty and his two year old band.  Legendary guitarist/vocalist Guitar Shorty is a giant in the blues world. Credited with influencing both Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy, Guitar Shorty has been electrifying audiences for five decades with his supercharged live shows and his incendiary recordings.  http://www.guitarshorty.com/

The Gourds have never been much on sentiment. Since the band started defining Gourds Music,  they have chugged through America fueled by music and a near-pathological need for a good time. http://www.thegourds.com/band.html

Mighty Diamonds are a Jamaican harmony trio, recording roots reggae with a strong Rastafarian influence. The group, which comprised  "Tabby" Shaw, "Bunny" Simpson, and "Judge" Ferguson, was formed in 1969, and remains together as of 2010.

Unable to remember his exact date of birth, he began his musical career in his early seventies and has continuously recorded for the Fat Possum Records label.   His musical style melds traditional Chicago blues and juke joint blues styles with the rawness of Delta blues and a rebellious attitude.

Pieta is the daughter of folk singer Greg Brown who blends folk, rock, country and blues to create a sound uniquely her own and has been described as a "self-styled poetess, folk goddess and country musician."

Carrie Rodriguez is a classically trained fiddle-toting, mandoguitar-slinging Texas-based singer/songwriter "Love and Circumstance" (2010, Opus Records).  In addition to the new CD, Carrie made a recent TV appearance on Austin City Limits (PBS) with actor Jeff Bridges and his band, The Abiders!
